Common Questions
Everything you need to know before buying a used shipping container
Cargo Worthy (CWO) means the container has passed an official inspection and is certified safe for international ocean shipping. These are the highest quality used containers—structurally sound, weatherproof, with working doors and seals. We include a 5-year structural warranty on all CWO units.
Wind & Water Tight (WWT) containers are retired from shipping but remain fully sealed against the elements. They may have more cosmetic wear (dents, surface rust, faded paint) but are perfect for storage, workshops, or conversion projects. You save $400+ compared to CWO.
Our promise: We photograph every container before delivery so you see exactly what you're getting—no surprises.
Every container we sell goes through a 14-point inspection at our Tulsa yard before listing:
- Roof and wall integrity (no holes or deep corrosion)
- Floor condition (marine-grade plywood, no soft spots or rot)
- Door operation and seal quality
- Corner castings and structural frame
- Locking mechanism functionality
Surface rust is normal on used containers and doesn't affect strength—we only reject containers with structural corrosion. You're welcome to visit our yard to inspect before buying, or we'll send detailed photos and video of your specific unit.
Our containers come from major shipping lines and were used for general cargo—electronics, furniture, textiles, and packaged goods. We don't source containers that hauled chemicals, hazardous materials, or perishables.
Before delivery, we clean each container and verify there are no lingering odors or residues. If you're converting to living space, the steel walls are easy to seal with standard paint or insulation panels.
Concerned about specific use? Just ask—we can tell you the container's origin port and general cargo history.
For simple storage: Most Oklahoma counties allow shipping containers on residential property without permits if used for storage only. However, check your local zoning and any HOA rules first.
For living spaces/workshops: Converting a container to a habitable structure (guest house, office, etc.) typically requires:
- Building permit from your county
- Foundation approval (concrete piers or slab)
- Electrical and plumbing permits if connecting utilities
- Final inspection for occupancy
We work with several local contractors experienced in container conversions and can provide referrals. Tulsa County and surrounding areas are generally container-friendly.
We deliver using a tilt-bed trailer—the container slides off the back, no crane or forklift needed. This means:
- Clear path required: 12 feet wide, 14 feet overhead clearance
- Level surface: Gravel, concrete, or compacted dirt works fine
- Access: The truck needs about 70 feet to back up and tilt
Delivery timeline: Most orders deliver within 1-3 business days in the Tulsa metro area. We'll call to confirm your delivery window.
What if my site is tricky? Send us photos of your driveway/access and we'll let you know if special equipment is needed (rare, but we'll be upfront about any extra costs).
Absolutely! Shipping containers make excellent bases for:
- Guest houses & ADUs (accessory dwelling units)
- Home offices and studios
- Workshops and hobby spaces
- Pool houses and backyard retreats
For conversions, we recommend High Cube containers—the extra foot of height (9'6" vs 8'6") makes a huge difference for comfortable living/working space, especially after adding insulation and flooring.
Typical conversion costs: Basic insulated workshop: $5-8K. Full guest house with bathroom: $15-30K+ depending on finishes. We can connect you with local contractors who specialize in container builds.
For storage only: Compacted gravel or railroad ties work fine. The key is keeping the container level and off wet ground to prevent floor rot.
For permanent structures:
- Concrete piers (4-6 per 40ft container) — Most popular, cost-effective
- Concrete slab — Best for climate control, required in some areas
- Helical piers — Good for difficult soil, minimal ground disturbance
Container corners are the strongest points—always support at the corners, never just under the middle. A 40ft container weighs about 8,500 lbs empty.
We believe in transparent pricing—no hidden fees. Here's what to expect:
| 40ft Standard WWT | $2,450 |
| 40ft Standard CWO | $2,850 |
| 40ft High Cube WWT | $2,850 |
| 40ft High Cube CWO | $3,250 |
| Delivery (Tulsa metro) | $150-350 |
